Two teenagers were found hanging early this morning in an abandoned house at Uitvlugt, West Coast Demerara in an apparent suicide pact following refusal of permission to wed.
Commander of D Division Balram Persaud confirmed the incident to Stabroek News and said the teenagers, an 18-year-old mini bus conductor and a girl said to be 16 were found in the building belonging to the boy’s grandparents. The boy has been identified as 18-year-old Avinash Persaud of Greenwich Park, East Bank Essequibo. The girl has since been identified as Kaymattie Hussein, 17, of Cornelia Ida Housing Scheme.
The commander said that the teenagers were in an apparent relationship and wanted to be married but this was opposed by relatives.
A police release this afternoon said that around 6 am they were found hanging in an abandoned building at Uitvlugt Pasture. The police said that investigations so far showed that the two shared a relationship “but were believed to having parental disagreements”. They were last seen at their respective homes on Monday and Sunday last.
Post-mortem examinations are to be done.
