It is always fabulous when a boutique can come to you, which is why John Lewis Styles scores high points for pitching the clothes directly to the public with its annual shows.
Who knew there was enough space on the Lahama Street location of the store to accommodate all those clothes? Truth is you could miss a few things–no several things–in the store because space is a problem.
Maybe someone said something to the proprietors about the space because they announced on Saturday last that a second store is on the work plan for 2011.
Infatuation 2, the second installment of the store’s annual show, was served up on Saturday last and it was deliciously good. Between the frequent showers and a few issues with lighting, the show rolled on before a sizeable audience at the Pegasus Hotel poolside.
Two things: John Lewis Styles has nice clothes, and its helps that they find good looking people to model them. People were interested in the clothes, and in many instances, the models.
What is there not to like about clothes from a boutique where just about every piece calls you from the racks when you drop in? The fashion show took the audience through segments of various wear ranging from office and semi-formal to club wear.
The choices in club wear struck all the right notes with the crowd as the models paraded around in chic little dresses; mini-skirts and hot pants; stylish jeans; leather jackets and a few ‘barely-there’ numbers. As if coordinated, the rain interrupted the club wear segment just as it was heating up.
It must be said that John Lewis Styles has some of the most enviable ladies shoes and handbags of any boutique in this country; many women in the audience seemed more infatuated with either of the two than the clothes.
“I wonder if they have my size in that [shoe]”, a female patron said as one of the models emerged in a bronze, strappy, high heeled shoe that screamed both sexy and sophisticated. The patron repeated that same line twelve times (we counted).
When the curtains came down on the show, the rain did too, and the organizers signed off with that signature John Lewis Style’s plug line of the store being; simply different.
It makes you wonder what was so different then it hits you; it was not just about the trendy clothes, it was about how you coordinate colours, chose clothes for an occasion, and dress based on your personality.
