A ten-year-old boy hanged himself this afternoon, two days after his older brother was taken into custody following an alleged theft.
Owen Benn of 11 Prince William Street, Plaisance, East Coast Demerara was pronounced dead at the Georgetown Public Hospital (GPHC) at around 5:30 this afternoon. He was found hanging in his home at around 5pm and rushed to the institution.
It is understood that the boy’s older brother, said to be 14-years, along with three others have been in custody at the Turkeyen Police Station since last Friday following allegations.
It is believed that the child was so distraught over his brother’s prolonged incarceration that he took his own life.
