The Protocol Committee, in a press release sent yesterday, rejected a statement issued by the party on Friday which said that neither Ramsaroop nor any party officer had been asked to deliver a tribute at the Leguan interment ceremony. The committee said it “regrets that certain members of the PNCR saw it fit to issue such a statement so soon after the recent interment of our beloved, respected and trusted colleague: it is regretted because it is both inaccurate and misleading.”
According to the committee, its Chairperson Russell Lancaster was informed by the Leader of the PNCR Robert Corbin that he should liaise with General Secretary Oscar Clarke and Volda Lawrence “on any and all arrangements relating to the funeral…”. The committee said Lawrence was contacted with regard to who would speak on behalf of the PNCR at the interment ceremony at Leguan and Ramsaroop had been identified. The group said a printed copy of the programme, with Ramsaroop’s name listed, was subsequently delivered to Lawrence’s home on the Sunday prior to the funeral.
Stabroek News had reported in its Wednesday’s edition that Ramsaroop was a no-show at the funeral despite being on the programme to deliver a tribute.
Following Murray’s death on Monday November 22, a statement was issued saying that a committee had been set up to look after the funeral arrangements. It was said that the members of this body were the only persons authorized to speak about the funeral arrangements.
