ST GEORGE’S, Grenada, CMC – West Indies A batsman Andre Fletcher stroked an enterprising double century as Grenada took control of their opening game of the Windward Islands Senior Championships on Saturday.
The 23-year-old right-hander amassed 205, an innings that powered Grenada to 435 for five declared on the second day of the three-day encounter against St Vincent and the Grenadines at the Lauriston Playing Field on the island of Carriacou.
At the close, SVG were struggling on 102 for three, with the final session of play abandoned due to waterlogged conditions following rain just before the tea interval.
Fletcher struck 20 fours and 10 sixes in his highest ever score, and it was witnessed by scores of fans who turned out to see the first match at this level to be played in Carriacou, a dependency of Grenada.
There were supporting knocks of 96 from Lyndon Lawrence, who hit 10 fours and four sixes, while captain Heron Campbell stroked 53 and debutant Rudolph Paul, 34.West Indies Under-19 star Atticus Brown then scored an unbeaten 40 and was paired with the experienced Lyndon James on 18 when play was called off. Left-arm spinner Denis George picked up two for 14.
