According to a senior police officer, the man said that at the time of the discovery he was working in Suriname. The man’s son, who was detained after 21 kilogrammes of cocaine was found in the trunk of a car at Uitvlugt two Tuesdays ago, has been released from police custody.
The senior officer explained that on the day in question, a car transporting three men was being followed by policemen in an unmarked car. Apparently, other police officers were approaching from the opposite direction and two men who are known to the police exited the car and escaped by scaling fences.
Stabroek News was told that several searches were conducted for the men who are yet to be located.
According to the senior police officer, the driver of the car who was left behind was detained after the cocaine was found in the trunk of the car. The man was released on station bail several days later, after investigators concluded that he was not linked to the drugs.
Police had said in a brief statement that around 1 pm ranks stopped and searched the vehicle at the West Coast Demerara location and discovered 21 kilogrammes and 488 grammes of cocaine.
