An Amelia’s Ward couple was remanded to prison yesterday for allegedly harbouring wanted men Colin Jones and Kurt Thierens, between last year and this year.
Marcia Holder, 49, and Roy Rawlins, 60, of Amelia’s Ward, McKenzie, Linden appeared before Magistrate Faybayo Azore at the Christianburg Magistrates’ Court.
The court was told that the two allegedly knowingly harboured Jones and Thierens at their 923 South Amelia’s Ward home between August 18, 2009 and November 26, 2010.
The fugitives were wanted for a series of murders and arson.
In objecting to bail, police prosecutor Naught told the court that the couple was under investigation for similar matters and because of the seriousness of the matter the duo may flee the jurisdiction. Prior to the magistrate’s decision, Holder pleaded not guilty to the offence while her partner Rawlins initially pleaded guilty but changed the plea to not guilty after consulting his attorney.
Two other persons, Deon Thompson, of 924 South Amelia’s Ward, Linden, and Ulilie Nichola McKweed, have also been charged with knowingly harbouring the men.
Jones has been charged with murdering two of his former gang members and another man and was jailed for eight years on a series of other charges including cultivation of ganja and possession of an unlicensed weapon and ammunition after he was held late last month.
