A man accused of having a pipe in his possession for smoking marijuana was yesterday admitted to bail in the sum of $50,000.
Mark Butts appeared before acting Chief Magistrate Priya Sewnarine-Beharry at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Court, where he pleaded not guilty to having an improvised pipe in his possession for smoking cannabis.
The allegation against Butts is that on December 7 at Georgetown, he had in his possession a utensil used for smoking cannabis. In giving the facts of the case, prosecutor Stephen Telford told the court that on the day in question, the police, acting upon suspicions, conducted a search on Butts and the device was uncovered.
When given a chance to speak, Butts told the court that he used the pipe “for tobacco and not cannabis.”
Butts was later granted bail and the case was transferred to Court Five for reports and fixtures on January 13.
