Repairs to the section of the Boerasirie Conservancy dam that slipped were yet to start by yesterday afternoon though more equipment was sent to the site.
Residents of the area told Stabroek News yesterday that a dragline was added to the excavator sent to the site and materials were being stockpiled but actual repairs had not yet started. Efforts to contact Chief Executive Officer of the National Drainage and Irrigation Authority (NDIA) Lionel Wordsworth were futile.
Residents had earlier told Stabroek News that after developing a major crack, a section of the dam at Canal Number Two slipped a few days ago. The fragile area is about 200 rods.
One man said that he had alerted the ranger to the large crack that appeared prior to the dam breaking. The slippage occurred since Sunday, residents had said but a major crack had appeared prior.
