Beveney, Velox on target in T&T

PORT OF SPAIN, Trinidad, CMC – Shawn Beveney of Guyana and veteran Vincentian Kendall Velox were both on target for their respective clubs when the Trinidad and Tobago Pro League resumed on Tuesday night, following a two-week break for the Digicel Caribbean Cup Finals which ended in Martinique on Sunday.

At the Manny Ramjohn Stadium, Beveney scored as Caledonia beat FC South End 2-1 to move to third spot with 18 points, 13 behind runaway leaders Defence Force and four adrift of second placed team and defending champions Joe Public.

Beveney, who played for Guyana at the DCC Finals, fired Caledonia into a 37th minute lead which it held until Oswin Williams drew FC South End level in the 70th minute.

Kemron Purcell then struck in the 89th minute to grab the winner for Caledonia.

At the Larry Gomes Stadium, Velox netted in the 56th minute as North East Stars slammed in six second-half goals to beat Police 6-3, after trailing 3-0 at the interval.

Noel Williams with a double and Sayid Frietas had given the Lawmen a comfortable 3-0 cushion at the break. However, it all went wrong in the second half for Police as Stars led by a hat-trick from Soca Warriors utility player Anthony Wolfe scored six goals without reply.

Wolfe got his goals in the 53rd, 66th and 86th minute while Velox (56th) Akile Guevara (59th) and former T&T international Gary Glasgow (70th) added one each.

At the top of the table, former champions, W Connection slowed the march of Defence Force towards their first Pro League title in 11 years when both teams battled to a 0-0 draw at the Ato Boldon Stadium, in rainy conditions.
