Guyana’s Under-17 footballers suffered a humiliating 7-0 defeat at the hands of regional powerhouse Haiti yesterday in their second round Caribbean Football Union (CFU) World Cup preliminary match played in the Dominican Republic.
According to reports, the score was 0-0 at half time but the Guyanese wilted under pressure in the second half and succumbed to the Haitian side for their second defeat of the tournament.
They were beaten by the host Dominican Republic 1-0 in the opening encounter on Wednesday in the four-nation World Cup qualifying series.
With no hopes of advancing to the next round the Guyanese will be looking for a consolation win when they take on Barbados in their final Group match tomorrow.
The Under-17 football squad left Guyana last Sunday for Santo Domingo with three Canadian-based players Khaneil Caesar, Khalil Rickette and Jordan Roberts in the 19-man squad.
The Guyanese had advanced to the second round following their unbeaten run in the first stage in Roseau, Dominica in July where they defeated hosts Dominica 5-0, Aruba 7-0 and drew with the Netherlands Antilles 2-2 to win the Group on a better goal average after the Netherlands Antilles had also beaten the other two teams.
