Hogtied teen, three others remanded

A quartet, including a teenager and a pensioner who allegedly are members of the ’Salt fish’ gang that went around stealing vehicle parts, was remanded to prison when they appeared at the Vreed-en-Hoop Magistrate’s Court this morning.

Shameer Mohamed, 17, his uncle, Hazihidiri Mohamed, 37, Basil Balgobin, and Bhiro Persaud, 62 denied the joint charge of attempting to commit a felony, simple larceny; and were remanded to prison by Magistrate Nyasha Williams-Hatmin. The teenager, when caught last Thursday was hogtied by residents. The prosecutor told the court that the police had strong evidence against the defendants and asked that bail be denied.
