The UNASUR meeting was a success. Guyana as the host country did everything possible to ensure that the country was well prepared to make the occasion a success. Weeks prior to the meeting a massive undertaking was done to spruce up the environs so that conditions in part of the country were of an acceptable standard. With the delegates and media personnel travelling on our roadways, I am sure that they would have noticed the beautiful scenery which forms part of this beautiful country. They would have noticed colourful buildings, billboards (electronic), posters and banners placed on fences, lamp-posts and metal frames to inform persons of some event, service, product, etc. There is this beautifully designed sign which is erected in front of an East Bank business.
This sign is very attractive, well constructed, brightly illuminated and is perched on a metal frame and is clearly visible. The words on this sign notify the public that there is a drive “trough” car wash available at the location. This sign has been there for over two years. Secondly there is a white banner on the fence of a government institution which states that a sporting event scheduled for a particular date is “sponser” by a renowned business enterprise.
Again there is a notice on the wall of a shopping complex and manufacturing enterprise which states that one of the products offered for sale is available at (a price) per “feet” with the word ‘feet’ being spelt out. Finally a sign on a well-supported business says no smoking on the “premise.” It should be noted that the places on which these signs and notices are erected are located on the East Bank of Demerara Public Road. I am hoping that by way of this letter corrections can be made to these incorrect spellings.
