The decomposing body of a 68-year-old man who was missing for two days was yesterday found floating in a drainage canal at Greenfield, East Coast Demerara.
Dead is Balkissoon Ramjahul called `Bal’ of Greenfield Koker Dam. A post-mortem examination will be conducted on the body shortly to determine if foul play was involved in his death.
A senior police official told Stabroek News that Ramjahul, a labourer, left home after telling his wife that he was going out for a drink. He man never returned and according to the police official it is unclear if a missing person’s report was made.
This newspaper was told that the man’s wife searched several places including the homes of relatives but Ramjahul was not found.
Around 8:30 yesterday morning, police were informed that a body was spotted in the drainage canal and on checking ranks found the bloated remains of Ramjahul floating in the water. He was face down.
The police official told this newspaper that because of the state of the body it would have been difficult to determine if there were marks of violence.
Ramjahul’s relatives could not be reached for comment.
The body is at the Lyken’s Funeral Home.
