Dear Editor,
I wish to bring to the attention of the relevant authorities – be it the Ministry of Public Works or Mayor & City Council – an accident just waiting to happen. The attached photographs show a huge hole which is on McDougal Street in Kitty. This is a short street which runs adjacent to both Station and Owen Streets. It is also the only entrance/exit to Owen Street.
A couple of weeks ago, this was just a small hole, but due to the frequent vehicular use of this road it has developed into a huge hole. This matter was repeatedly reported by the residents to both the Mayor & City Council and the Ministry of Public Works, and the only action taken was that the Mayor & City Council placed two barrels at the edge of the hole. This was done last Monday (December 6) and to date they have not returned. Idle persons have since thrown both barrels into the hole; yes, you can imagine the depth of the hole! At present, all vehicles are forced to squeeze past the remainder of the road (less than half) and in doing so, the other side is beginning to erode.
I am highlighting this problem through your newspaper in the hope that the relevant authorities will take note and hasten to rectify the problem before it becomes a disaster.
I speak on behalf of all the residents in this area.
Yours faithfully,
Jennie Charran
