BRIDGETOWN, Barbados, CMC – Fast bowler Carlos Brathwaite is the lone newcomer in a Barbados 14-man squad announced Monday to contest next month’s Caribbean Twenty20 Championship.
The 22-year-old, who plays for Banks in the local Division One league, is a well-built pacer who has impressed in recent time with his genuine pace.
In recent years, Brathwaite has played a couple of seasons in Trinidad and Tobago’s Division One league where he represented the prestigious Queen’s Park.
Also a capable batsman, Brathwaite is expected to strengthen the side which finished as losing finalists in the inaugural tournament earlier this year, when they lost a thrilling final by a single wicket to Guyana.
Barbados has been boosted by the inclusion of West Indies players, pacer Kemar Roach, left-arm spinner Sulieman Benn and recent batting recruit Kirk Edwards.
As expected, the side will be led by left-handed batsman Ryan Hinds.
The reserves are High Performance Centre skipper Shamarh Brooks, discarded West Indies wicektkeeper Patrick Browne, West Indies Under-19 fast bowling all-rounder Jason Holder and spinner Kenroy Williams.
Barbados open their campaign against Leeward Islands in Antigua on January 11 in the tournament that runs from January 10-23 in Antigua and Barbados.
