Man punched woman after child support request -court hears

A man accused of wounding the mother of his children after she asked him for child support was yesterday granted bail in the sum of $30,000.

The allegation against Troy Stewart is that on December 9 at Georgetown, he unlawfully and maliciously wounded Ursula Evans.

Stewart pleaded not guilty to the charge of unlawful and malicious wounding when it was read to him by acting Chief Magistrate Priya Sewnarine-Beharry at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Court.

Prosecutor Stephen Telford told the court that on the day in question Evans had approached Stewart, who has been failing in his responsibility to maintain their two children. According to Telford, the woman asked Stewart, from whom she is now separated, for some financial assistance for the children’s upkeep and he subsequently became annoyed and punched her to the face.

A police report was later made and Stewart was arrested and charged. The Magistrate placed Stewart on bail and ordered him to return to court on December, 22.
