As a North Sophia man attempted to cross the East Coast Demerara (ECD) Public Road yesterday morning he was fatally struck by a car.
Michael Persaud, 48, of North Sophia, ECD was pronounced dead on arrival at the Georgetown Public Hospital and police have since arrested the driver of the vehicle.
In a press release yesterday police said that they are investigating the accident which occurred at about 8.30am on the Bel Air stretch of the Public Road.
It is alleged, police reported, that the driver of motor car PLL 7417 was proceeding along the roadway when Persaud attempted to cross the road and was struck down.
The driver, according to police, is in custody assisting with investigations.
