The Guyana Relief Council (GRC) has announced that its office at Riverview, Ruimveldt, closed from yesterday until January 4 but during this period persons who are affected by disasters can still access their assistance.
A GRC release said that persons affected by disasters such as fires and high winds may call any of the following numbers for immediate help: 231-1489, 226-6965, 231-4071 and 225-6547.
Meanwhile, the GRC said that for the year to date it has provided relief in the case of fires to 147 families – 565 persons; and in three cases of disasters due to high winds assistance was given to 17 persons; and there were 21 welfare cases in which 163 persons were assisted.
The GRC executive and members also extended heartfelt appreciation to the many organizations and individuals “who unhesitatingly supported the council’s work” during this year.
The GRC is a nonprofit, charitable organization which assists in alleviating the suffering of persons who are affected by natural or manmade disasters. The council also provides a temporary shelter with basic amenities for persons who are displaced due to these disasters.
