The Caribbean Community is increasing efforts to respond to the Cholera epidemic in Haiti.
A release yesterday from the Secretariat said that a three-member team is now in Port-au-Prince engaging Haitian officials in relation to the setting up of Cholera treatment centres which CARICOM volunteers would run.
This team is headed by Dr. Rudolph Cummings – Programme Manager, Health Sector Development of the CARICOM Secretariat; and includes Dr. Melody Ennis of the Ministry of Health, Jamaica and Major Kirk Johnson of the Jamaica Defence Force.
It is expected that the team will meet with Haitian health officials and other organizations involved in the fight against the epidemic which has so far claimed almost 3,000 lives.
The team will also undertake visits to the proposed clinics at Fonds Verrette and Thomazeu.
