Linden Greene, who told a Georgetown court that he was using cannabis for medical purposes, was on Thursday fined $3,000 and ordered to serve six months of community service for having the prohibited substance in his possession.
Greene pleaded guilty to a charge of possession of narcotics, admitting that on December 14, at Georgetown, he had in his possession two grammes of cannabis. Greene calmly told acting Chief Magistrate Priya Sewnarine-Beharry, “Meh worship, I does use it fuh medical purposes.”
Attorney Mohamed Zafar, who entered an appearance for the man, begged the court for lenience, noting that Greene had promptly admitted his guilt when asked about the offence and did not waste the court’s time.
After hearing the case, the Magistrate ordered him to pay a fine of $3,000 and to serve six months of community service.
