Home Minister Rohee yesterday said there should not be any major implications for Guyana following the sentencing of former PNCR MP Abdul Kadir, who was convicted of plotting to blow up fuel tanks at the John F Kennedy Airport.
The Government Information Agency last evening quoted Rohee as saying that since Guyana cooperated fully with the US authorities in providing whatever information was requested, there should be no major fallout. He added that government is expecting a level of reciprocity with regards to the information that Guyana is seeking with respect to the suspected perpetrators of the arson attack of the Ministry of Health. He made the remarks during a walkabout in Georgetown.
Kadir was sentenced to life imprisonment. In June, after deliberating for five days, a jury delivered guilty verdicts for Kadir and co-accused Russell Defreitas on a series of charges. Kadir, formerly Michael Seaforth, was convicted of conspiracy to attack a public transportation system; conspiracy to destroy a building by fire or explosive; conspiracy to attack aircraft and aircraft materials; conspiracy to destroy international airport facilities; and conspiracy to attack a mass transportation facility.
