Le-Var Hutson, known as ‘Force Ripe,’ 24, and his girlfriend Tramaine Sewah, 17, were remanded to prison by Magistrate Omeyana Hamilton, after the couple denied the charge of trafficking 103 grammes of cocaine.
Hutson of New Street, and Sewah of King Street, both New Amsterdam locations, were alleged to be passengers in motor car HB 7112, when police held them at a road block at Albion on Wednesday.
Police said the driver had earlier picked up the couple at New Street, in the Berbice Township, when the car was stopped.
Police Prosecutor Inspector Satrohan Dayaram told the court that the defendants were seen acting in a suspicious manner and the driver was asked to motor into the nearby Albion Police Station. A search was conducted in the car but nothing was found. The couple was then taken into the adjoining Magistrate Courtroom. Police were conducting a search on Hutson when they reportedly observed Sewah removing two plastic packets from her pants pocket and dropping them on the floor.
The prosecutor said too that the ranks picked up the parcels and opened them in front of Sewah who is a student of the New Amsterdam Technical Institute. She claimed that Hutson gave the drug to her while the car was driving into the compound.
Reports are that they both admitted knowledge of the drug in a caution statement. Hutson is being represented by attorney Mursaline Bacchus who was not present at court while defence counsel for Sewah is Charrandas Persaud
The case is fixed for hearing on December 21 at the Albion Court.
