They went and they conquered.
Fruta Conquerors last evening went to the Enmore Community Centre ground and emerged with a 4-3 win on penalty kicks against Victoria Kings in the second game of the 21st annual Kashif and Shanghai football tournament . A pulsating encounter saw the two teams being deadlocked on three goals each at the end of regulation time and even extra time failed to resolve the impasse.
It took the dreaded penalty kicks before Fruta Conquerors was able to escape with the win and advance to the next round.
Vernon Mills scored a double for Fruta Conquerors in the fifth and 16th minute respectively while Dwayne Lewis scored in the 78th minute.
For the Kings, Ralston Morris scored in the 52nd minute while Orin Elias netted a double in the 70th and 78th minutes.
In the opening encounter Linden’s Netrockers scored a 2-0 win over Bakewell Buxton Stars.
Matthew Pollard in the 28th minute and Ken Bobbin the 35th were the goal scorers.
Meanwhile the Kashif and Shanghai Organisation last night issued a press release stating that there will be no games today because of the unavailability of venues.
As a result, four matches will now be played at two venues tomorrow.
At the GFC, Alpha United will play Seawall FC in the feature game from 08:00hrs with the first game between Ann’s Grove United and Bakewell Topp XX.
At the Blairmont Community Centre Ground Santos FC play New Amsterdam United in the opening game at 19:00hrs to be followed by the Guyana Defense Force against Rosignol United at 19:00hrs.
