A Brazilian miner died this afternoon after the passenger boat he was travelling in collided with a pile in the Essequibo River.
The dead man’s name has been given as Roderick Dantas age 48.
Stabroek News was told that a filled passenger boat left the Parika Stelling around 4:40 pm. Five minutes into the trip in an area known as Look Out, the vessel collided with a pile and capsized. The passengers and the captain who were thrown into the water were rescued by persons nearby. When the vessel was turned over however, Dantas’ lifeless body was found.
