Brazilian Mauricio Paulino Da Silva was yesterday charged with murdering one of his countrymen here.
The allegation against Da Silva is that between November 24 and November 25, at Sand Hills Backdam, Upper Demerara River, he murdered Rai Murendo Nonato Hima De Souza.
Da Silva was not required to enter a plea to the capital offence and he was remanded to prison after appearing before acting Chief Magistrate Priya Sewnarine-Beharry at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Court.
Prosecutor Stephen Telford informed the court that the “facts are as charged” and provided no further details of the matter. Telford made an application for the matter to be adjourned, stating that the witnesses, who are all Brazilians residing in Brazil, are yet to be summoned.
