Acting Chief Magistrate Priya Sewnarine-Beharry yesterday remanded to prison a Timehri gold miner accused of having 808 grams of cannabis in his possession for the purpose of trafficking.
The Georgetown Magistrate’s Court heard that acting on information, on Tuesday Customs Anti-Narcotics Unit (CANU) officers searched Orwin Joseph’s 16 Timehri Docks residence where they allegedly found the narcotic. Joseph pleaded not guilty to the charges when he appeared in court.
In presenting the facts of the case, Special CANU Prosecutor Oswald Massiah told the court that CANU officers conducted the search after a tip-off.
They allegedly found the narcotic hidden in two suitcases.
Joseph was ordered to appear in the Providence Magistrate’s Court on January 3, 2011 for statements.
