LONDON, England, CMC – Stephen Ames’ prolonged injury layoff has resulted in his continued slide in the Official World Golf Rankings.
In the latest edition released this week, the 46-year-old had slipped another three places to 116th, his lowest ranking in the last eight years on the PGA Tour.
The Trinidad and Tobago-born golfer, who now represents Canada, has not played since the last week of October when he pulled out of the Justin Timberlake Shriners Hospitals for Children Open in Las Vegas with a back injury.
He subsequently announced a premature end to his season, in order to recover from the ailment.
His inactivity on the tour has seen him plunge beyond the top-100 in the OWGR. He jumped into the top-100 when he finished second in the 2002 PLAYERS Championship, catapulting from 144th to 65th in the world.
Ames tumbled out of the top-100 briefly, he never fell beyond 106th.
There has been no change to the top five of the rankings with England’s Lee Westwood continuing in the number one position, and former long-time leader American Tiger Woods at number two.
