The Food and Drug Department said the US FDA and Abbott Diabetes Care have recalled 359 different lots of glucose test strips marketed under several brand names.
According to a press release the strips marketed under the brand names Precision Xceed Pro, Precision Xtra, Precision Point of Care, Precision G3b Smartblue, MediSense Optium, Optiu, Optium EZ and ReliOn Ultima were found to have a defect that inhibits sufficient absorption into the test strips.
As such, these strips may give falsely low blood glucose results which can lead patients to try to raise their blood glucose where it is unnecessary or to fail to treat elevated blood glucose due to a falsely low reading. “Both scenarios pose risks to health,” the release said.
