Regional T20 champions Guyana were brought down to earth last night as a group of determined cricketers who had a point to prove defeated them by eight wickets in the Trinidad and Tobago Cricket Board (TTCB) T20 Cricket Festival at Guaracara Park in Pointe-a-Pierre.
Scores: Guyana 88 all out versus T&T ‘A’ 91/2.
The T&T ‘A’ team is comprised of players who did not make the senior team for the regional T20 cricket series. Every man on that team would say that they deserved to be on the national senior team and hence they had a point to prove. Guyana was first up on the agenda and the champions were bowled out for 88 with four balls to spare of their allotted 20 overs.
‘A’ team captain Rayad Emrit led the assault and finished with 3/14, as the South Americans had a sobering night under the Pointe-a-Pierre Refinery flames.
The big guns in Shivnarine Chanderpaul (12) and Ramnaresh Sarwan (0) failed and only Royston Crandon with 21 and extras 18 were any scores of note.
Chasing 89 runs for victory, the ‘A’ team rushed home at 91/2 off 15.1 overs with man of the match Dwayne Bravo scoring 44. The Australia-bound Bravo took a knock with the ‘A’ team and showed good form in scoring 44 off 35 balls with three fours and a six. In the end West Indies Under-19 player Evin Lewis was unbeaten on 37 and Justin Guillen four.
