President of the Berbice Cricket Board (BCB) Keith Foster was on Monday re-elected for a second term at the BCB’s annual general meeting.
According to a release from the BCB, “seven of the eight executives were re-elected en bloc based on a motion that was passed by a vote of 31 to 1.
The Albion Community Centre Cricket Club did not support the motion.
Former third vice president, Ricardo Bachan, did not seek re-election because of illness and Hubern Evans defeated Port Mourant Cricket Club president Godfrey Persaud 24 to 8 votes in a straight fight to fill Bachan’s position.
According to the release, the reports of Foster, secretary Angela Haniff, treasurer Anil Beharry, competitions committee chairman, Carl Moore and special events committee chairman Hilbert Foster were discussed.
“The President [Foster] in his report highlighted the remarkable progress during 2010 especially the performances of the Inter-county teams and individual players while he had special praise for the work of the Special Events Committee which he stated has completely changed in a positive way the image of the Berbice Cricket Board.
“The Competitions Committee report proudly stated that a record breaking, 20 cricket competitions were played in the county of Berbice, while the Special Events Committee reported on a record 70 off the field programmes and projects. Delegates had a long and fruitful discussion on the board’s audited 2010 financial report and expressed confidence in Beharry’s handling of the board’s finances.”
Following his re-election, Foster expressed gratitude to the board members for their confidence in his executives and pledged that the next two years would be even better for Berbice cricket.
The new executive body is to meet early next year to select the different committees of the BCB.
For the coming year the BCB has set itself a target of at least 20 tournaments and a total of 75 off the field activities.
Meanwhile, in an effort to dominate all Inter county tournaments, the BCB stated that it will commence early preparation for the Under-15 tournament by launching a junior elite training programme that would involve the top 40 junior players in Berbice.
The board’s 2011 cricket season will be launched with the Rohan Kanhai Tribute Match at No. 69 Village Cricket Ground between West Berbice/New Amsterdam/Canje and Corentyne teams.
The Berbice Cricket Board executives for the 2011/2012 term are: President – Keith Foster, First Vice President – David Black, Second Vice President – Mark Lyte, Third Vice President – Hubern Evans, Secretary – Angela Haniff, Assistant Secretary – Carol Nurse, Treasurer – Anil Beharry and Assistant Treasurer – Romash Munna.
