Essequibo fisherman Trevor John was on Tuesday admitted to bail in the sum of $50,000, after being charged with having a quantity of cannabis in his possession.
John, appearing before acting Chief Magistrate Priya Sewnarine-Beharry at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Court, denied that on December 24, at Essequibo, he had in his possession eight grammes of cannabis.
John, who resides at Ondeerneeming Sand pit, Essequibo Coast, pleaded not guilty to the charge of possession of narcotics.
Meanwhile, labourer Michael Wall was also charged on Tuesday and placed on $5,000 bail, after he denied being found with four grammes of marijuana.
It was alleged that Wall, of Ondeerneeming Sand Pit, Essequibo Coast, had the narcotics on December 24, at Essequibo. He offered a not-guilty plea when the charge was read to him by Magistrate Sewnarine-Beharry.
Attorney Mohamed Zafar, who represented Wall, made an application for his client to be admitted to reasonable bail on the grounds that he had no previous convictions, posed no risk of flight, and had been cooperating with the police.
Another Essequibo man, accused of having an improvised pipe for smoking in his possession, was also admitted to bail on Tuesday.
The allegation against Trevor Ramratan is that on December 24, at Essequibo, he had an improvised utensil used for smoking, that is to say a pot pipe, in his possession. Ramratan, who lives at Ondeerneeming Sand Pit, Essequibo Coast, denied the charge and he was later placed on $50,000 bail.
After all three men were granted bail their respective cases were transferred to the Suddie Magistrates’ Court for January 13.
