(De Ware Tijd) — In February, Lieutenant-Colonel Hedwig Gillard (53) will take over from Colonel Ernst Mercuur (55) as army commander. This was announced by Defence Minister Lamuré Latour during the end-of-the-year celebrations in the Memre Boekoe Barracks yesterday. Gillard will be the 7th army commander since Suriname’s independence in 1975.
