A man who broke into another’s house and stole a vacuum cleaner was yesterday remanded to prison.
Keith Bowen appeared before Acting Chief Magistrate Priya Sewnarine-Beharry at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Court charged with breaking and entering the dwelling house of Paul Giddings on December 26 and stealing a vacuum cleaner valued $60,000.
Bowen admitted guilt, but he explained that he did not break in as both the gate and door to the house were left open.
Prosecutor Stephen Telford said Giddings had secured his home and went out. Upon his return, Telford said, he realised that his house had been broken into. Some moments after, Telford added, Giddings saw Bowen exiting his back door with the vacuum cleaner.
Upon seeing Giddings, Bowen scaled the back fence in a bid to escape, Telford further said, but an alarm was raised and he was captured.
When given a chance to respond, Bowen told the court that he did not break into Giddings’ house. He, however, admitted that he removed the vacuum from the premises, after finding the gate and door to the house opened.
Bowen was remanded to prison until January 4 for sentencing.
