DETROIT, (Reuters) – Boston forward Kevin Garnett injured his right leg in the Celtics’ 104-92 loss to the Detroit Pistons on Wednesday and could miss some games.
Garnett limped off the court after dunking in the first quarter and did not return. He underwent X-rays, which were negative, and will have an MRI on Thursday in Boston.
“I know it’s a muscle, not a knee, which is good,” Celtics coach Doc Rivers told the team’s website (nba.com/Celtics). “I don’t know how severe it is or anything like that.”
Garnett suffered a similar injury during the 2008-09 season that caused him to miss the playoffs and also affected him last season.
The 16-year veteran was averaging 15.4 points and 9.8 rebounds coming into Wednesday’s game.
The Celtics (24-6) have the best record in the Eastern Conference despite playing missing injured starting point guard Rajon Rondo and center Kendrick Perkins, who has been sidelined the whole season following knee surgery.
