The T&T ‘A’ team walked away with the T&T Cricket Board (TTCB) T20 Festival crown and $20,000, when rain washed out their game against the Academy XI at Guaracara Park in Pointe-a-Pierre Thursday evening.
The T&T ‘A’ team finished the round robin series unbeaten, getting seven points in the end. They were followed by Guyana on four points, the T&T Senior team on four points and the Academy on one. The second match between T&T Senior team and Guyana the marquee clash of the tournament did not come off because of a waterlogged outfield at Guaracara Park.
In the day’s first game, T&T ‘A’ won the toss and decided to take first strike. This toss was then followed by a rain delay and the match was reduced to 16 overs a side. Before the players could walk out again, the rain came down and after several inspections the umpires decided that the game will be reduced to 11 overs per side.
The players then went out and with the T&T ‘A’ team struggling on 18 for two after 2.5 overs, a final and decisive shower put paid to any action out in the middle.
The ‘A’ team lost Evin Lewis for a ‘duck’ and Justin Guillen for one. At the crease when the rain came were Tishan Maraj on four not out and Aneil Kanhai on eight with two fours.
Within minutes off the players walking off the pitch, the Park was turned into a lake, as the already soaked outfield could take no more water.
This left the 500 or so fans who had gathered hoping for cricket, very disappointed.
The Guyana team which pocked TT$10,000 left T&T at midnight yesterday.
