A truck driver was yesterday charged with collecting $200,000 from another man by pretending to him that he was in a position to sell him a truck.
Latchman Narine, of 116 ‘BB’ Eccles, was admitted to bail in the sum of $100,000, after appearing before acting Chief Magistrate Priya Sewnarine-Beharry on a charge of obtaining money by pretence. He pleaded not guilty after the charge was read to him at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Court.
The allegation against Narine is that on October 22, at Eccles, with intent to defraud, he obtained from Jairam Samaroo the sum of $200,000 by pretending that he was in a position to sell him a motor lorry. The details of what had transpired were not disclosed to the court.
The case was transferred to Court Two for January 20.
