A Linden/Georgetown minibus driver is nursing injuries to his left jaw at the Linden Hospital Complex after another driver struck him to the head following an argument.
Dwayne Lee aka ‘Red Man’, 40, of Wisroc Housing Scheme and driver of minibus BNN 1687 was taken to the hospital after he was allegedly struck by the other driver. The incident occurred shortly after they both returned to Linden on Monday afternoon at the end of their final trips for the day.
Stabroek News understands that the other driver was upset at the way Lee had overtaken him on two occasions the same day en-route to Linden on the Soesdyke Highway. Passengers travelling in Lee’s bus said when he arrived on Republic Avenue near the Regional Democratic Office the other driver indicated that he wanted to speak to him.
“Red Man stopped and park at the Region and went out to Bread Man and this quarrelling start between the two of them,” an eyewitness said. The woman said they were arguing about the overtaking on the Highway when, “Bread Man tell he ‘boy like you din wan kill me.’” The argument became more heated, another eyewitness said, when “Bread Man come to deh man bus and chuck he with a big piece wood and buss he lip.” Lee then armed himself with a lug spanner [tool] but he did not retaliate, further infuriating the attacker, the eyewitness added, and as Lee was entering his bus the other driver then dealt him a blow to the left jaw and neck from behind.
Witnesses also said that the piece of wood the other driver used in the attack may have had a nail in it as Lee’s wound was “spraying blood like a pipe.”
Another bus driver said that he realized that Lee was bleeding extensively and had started to faint so he took him to the hospital where he was admitted.
Several persons also expressed disgust at the other driver’s actions especially as police officers were on the scene during the encounter. He was ordered to report to the MacKenzie Police station where he remains in custody.
