Linden man’s hand almost severed in chopping attack

Police at Linden are on a manhunt for the suspect in a grisly chopping attack at Half Mile Wismar, Linden.

Ivelaw Archer, 59, of 45 Half Mile Wismar, Linden, almost had one of his hands severed in the attack, which was carried out by his ex-partner’s current boyfriend.

Archer and Carlotta Bethune share a child but they no longer live together. On, Monday he had gone to the woman’s house to collect her and his son when he was confronted by the woman’s partner. “And you know, I stand up waiting on she, telling she make haste…. So, she turn and say ‘you aint living here, that is the man fuh deh house, you can’t come and say who come fuh carry who or not, me aint deh with you or live with you,’ and he start talking how he gon kill,” Archer said.
The man subsequently pulled a knife from the waist and stabbed Archer several times about the body. He later armed himself with a cutlass and continued to attack Archer.

Several neighbours arrived at the scene but were unable rescue the man. “Dah man deh behaving really desperate and he would mince anyone ah we who go fuh stop he,” said an eyewitness.

Residents had summoned both the police and the ambulance. The ambulance responded promptly and as the man was about to be whisked off to the Linden Hospital Complex, his assailant dragged him out of the ambulance and dealt him several other chops.

By the time the police arrived, the attacker had fled. Meanwhile, Archer has since been transferred to the Georgetown Public Hospital.
