Christopher Kitt, 21, was yesterday remanded to prison over an attack at a city internet café, where he is accused of using a gun to rob a customer.
Kitt, of East La Penitence Squatting Area, was not required to plead to the indictable charge of robbery under arms when it was read to him by acting Chief Magistrate Priya Sewnarine-Beharry at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Court.
It is alleged that on January 2, at Georgetown, being armed with a gun, Kitt robbed Clarence Tyson of a gold chain valued $30,000.
According to the prosecution’s case, both Kitt and Tyson were at an internet café on Waini Street, Meadowbrook Gardens, when the robbery occurred. Kitt allegedly approached Tyson and demanded the chain. When met with resistance, prosecutor Stephen Telford told the court that Kitt whipped out a gun and demanded that the article be handed over to him.
Afraid for his life, Tyson complied and Kitt then made good his escape.
The court was further told by Telford that Kitt was apprehended some 20 minutes after the incident.
Telford objected to bail, citing the seriousness as well as prevalence of the offence. He also advanced the likelihood of Kitt interfering with Tyson as well as other witnesses in the matter, as a reason for his incarceration.
The unrepresented Kitt was remanded to prison and the case was transferred to Court Five for January 7 for statements.
