ATLANTA, (Reuters Life!) – Top-selling rapper Waka Flocka Flame will spend at least one more night in a county jail in Georgia after turning himself in on drug and weapons charges earlier this week, police said yesterday.
Police last month charged the performer, whose real name is Jaquin Malphurs, after they raided his suburban Atlanta home, said Jason Bolton, spokesman for Henry County police department.
Malphurs, who was already on probation for possession of a sawed-off shotgun in an earlier incident, was not present during December’s raid and turned himself in on Monday.
The court held a bond hearing on Wednesday on charges relating to the raid but Malphurs will remain in jail pending a separate hearing today on the additional charge of violating probation by possessing a gun, the sheriff’s office said. The artist’s current album, Flockaveli, is ranked 11th on the Billboard Magazine chart of top rap albums.
