The police say they are investigating a fatal accident that occurred at about 9.15 on Tuesday night at Canje, Berbice, which resulted in the death of Julian Mohabir, 23 years of Sheet Anchor, East Canje.
Investigations revealed that Mohabir was among four other persons in motor car PHH 6528 which was reportedly driven by Dwayne Joseph, 25 years of Tucber Park, New Amsterdam, and was crossing the Canje Bridge at the time.
The police say it is alleged that the driver overtook a motor vehicle and, in so doing, was confronted by an oncoming vehicle.
He swerved to avoid a collision, lost control of the vehicle and struck a utility pole along the roadway.
All five occupants suffered injuries and were taken to the New Amsterdam Hospital where Mohabir was pronounced dead on arrival. Joseph along with Nigel Henry, 34 years of Asylum Street, New Amsterdam; Vincent Vandenburg, 25 years of Coburg Street, New Amsterdam; and Revaldo Antigua, 21 years of Sheet Anchor, have been admitted patients at the New Amsterdam Hospital.
