Stallholders operating in the vicinity of yesterday’s explosion outside the Stabroek Market were ordered to dismantle their stalls and did so under the supervision of City Constabulary officers who later removed the wood and other material in a vehicle.
Late yesterday afternoon, Stabroek News observed shop owners located in the vicinity where the explosion occurred dismantling their structures and was told that an instruction had been issued for the vendors to be removed. The wood and other material from the dismantled shops were transported by a vehicle belonging to the City Constabulary.
Meanwhile, Orin, a man who does odd jobs at the market, told Stabroek News that he had known ‘American’ from seeing him about the place.
According to him, ‘American’ would help Mark ‘Bow Wow’Hyman, in whose stall the device exploded, and other businessmen in the market.
Orin said he usually assists a shop owner whose establishment is opposite where the explosion occurred and this is where Orin and ‘American’ slept on Tuesday night.
Orin said he woke up ‘American’ yesterday morning when the shop owner arrived and ‘American’ went across to Bow Wow’s shop. “I say man de boss lady come, yuh gah clean up and thing and he get up and go over deh [by Bow Wow],” he said.
“He does help the boy [Bow Wow] though. When the man closing up and thing, he does come and sweep up and thing,” Orin said.
At the time of the explosion, Orin said, he was at another part of the market.
“I don’t know wah happen,” Orin said repeatedly.
According to Orin, ‘American’ had been around the market for several years and as far as he is aware, the dead man does not have any relatives here.
“He never mention no family,” the man told this newspaper.
