Popular Linden businessman Albert Joseph called `Bolo’, who was shot during a robbery last Monday, succumbed to his wound earlier this evening.
Joseph of 68 Sunflower Street, Wismar, Linden had sustained a gunshot wound to the abdomen. Approximately 50 minutes after Bolo’s General Store at 68 Sunflower Street was opened for the usual afternoon business last Monday, Joseph was shot and robbed of $10,000, a gold chain and an Alcatel cell phone.
The man had been treated at the Linden Hospital Complex and then transferred to the Georgetown Public Hospital. Joseph died around 7.45 pm tonight. He is the second robbery victim to succumb to a gunshot wound this year. Paul Samaroo, of Goedverwagting, died last week. Samaroo was robbed in his yard.
Security cameras installed at Joseph’s store did not capture the image of the lone bandit who shot and robbed him on Monday afternoon.
Joseph’s daughter, Lauren, who was the cashier on duty, said the bandit entered the store brandishing a gun. At the time, she was in the cashier’s cage and Joseph was sitting in his usual position in front of the cashier’s cage. “I see the man come in the store and go straight up to Bolo and said gimme deh money,” Lauren Joseph said. “Bolo tell he he ain’t gat no money and he seh gimme wah yuh gat.” The businessman took off a gold chain he was wearing and handed it to the bandit, who demanded more. As Joseph went into his pocket, he was shot in the left side of his abdomen. The bandit then took the phone and cash, which were in the businessman’s pocket, and he fled.
