The national carrier Caribbean Airlines has decided to sponsor the national senior cricket team to the tune off US$25,000.
This was revealed by president of the T&T Cricket Board (TTCB), Azim Bassarath Friday at the press conference at the National Cricket Centre (NCC) in Balmain Couva.
Caribbean Airlines has made an initial payment of US$15,000 to the T&T Cricket Board and for every game the team wins during the regional T20 cricket series, the boys will receive US$2,500. If they go on to win the tournament they stand to earn a further US$13,000.
Captain of the T&T team Daren Ganga and the rest of the team were on hand to witness the hand over and Ganga promised that the players will do their best.
“We have a youthful team and the players are all eager to go out there and do the best for T&T. We did not win the title last time around, so we want to make amends and do the country proud. On behalf of the team, I would like to sincerely thank Caribbean Airlines for believing in us and supporting us.”
President of the TTCB, Bassarath said the board is extremely proud to be associated with Caribbean Airlines. “We are proud to join with you and we indeed thank you for helping us out in difficult times.
Bassarath added :”In these daunting economic times, the board made a firm decision not to simply wait on government support but make strides to become somewhat self-sufficient. To this end I am happy to announce the board’s official involvement on an ongoing basis, with a Marketing consultant RAG Sport Marketing.”
Representing Caribbean Airlines was Laura Asbjornsen and she mentioned that it was a pleasure to assist the national cricket team. “We want to get involved in assisting sport and culture in this country and we saw this as a great opportunity.”
