Search efforts are ongoing in the Essequibo River for a 22-year-old woman who went missing following a boat mishap in the river yesterday.
Reports are that some time after lunch yesterday, 22-year-old Michelle Benjamin of Gordon Street, Kitty and an employee of the Guyana Water Inc (GWI) fell overboard along with other relatives after the vessel they were travelling in capsized while in the vicinity of Saxacalli on the Essequibo River.
The other occupants of the vessel were rescued by a passing passenger vessel while searches continued into the night for Benjamin. Search efforts are ongoing at the moment as her family remains in shock.
