Mark ‘Bow-wow’ Hyman, owner of the Stabroek Market stall where the grenade exploded last Wednesday, was released on station bail some time over the weekend, Crime Chief Seelall Persaud said.
Hyman was arrested hours after the incident which left unidentified involuntary remigrant ‘American’ dead and 18 persons injured. The stall owner was held in police custody for more than 72 hours for questioning.
“His story,” a police source had told Stabroek News, “just didn’t add up.”
Since his release Hyman has maintained a low profile and has not returned to the Stabroek Market area. His entire stall was dismantled by police and the pieces taken to the Brickdam Police station. Hyman like many other vendors in the area is now without a place of business.
Since the incident, which occurred shortly after 10.30 am that day, Stabroek News has made several attempts to reach Hyman or his relatives for a comment. A woman, who other vendors identified as Hyman’s reputed wife, declined to speak with this newspaper on Thursday about the incident.
Stabroek News was able to locate a relative of Hyman yesterday but he too refused to comment. “What more you want to know? The man stall blow up, the police lock he up unnecessarily and now the media want harass he? He don’t have time for this,” the relative said.
Meanwhile, the crime chief further said that the grenade pin was never recovered by investigators. Further, police have found no leads which may indicate that other persons are connected to the incident. Investigations, he said, are ongoing.Grenade explosion stall owner
