A refined safety plan is in the pipelines as the Guyana Civil Aviation Authority (GCAA) works toward the speedy introduction of regulations and policies in accordance with the International Civil Aviation Authority’s (ICAO) state safety programme.
During the opening session of a state safety implementation course being facilitated by the GCAA, Transport Minister Robeson Benn noted that it is widely accepted that safety is paramount to the continued operations of civil aviation worldwide, and Guyana is in no way different from other states.
He said the industry will be required to implement its safety management system so as to complement the introduction and effectiveness of the state safety programme.
Participants in the course, which is being facilitated by ICAO representatives, Paul Fleming and Lia Ricalde, will be exposed to new initiatives aimed at improving Guyana’s safety oversight capability.
It will provide practical guidance on how to develop key elements of the state safety programme.
Benn said the latter will be incorporated into key aspects of the country’s safety regulations and policies. He said it is expected “that the insight gained from the workshop will establish the basis for refining an implementation plan” so that the state safety plan can be speedily introduced into the aviation industry.
Fleming said safety in the industry is recognized the world over and he expressed hope that the participants as well as himself will learn from various interactions for the duration of the course.
