Four persons, including a sixty-four-year-old crippled grandmother, who was on her way to the airport, are now in police custody following the discovery of over nine kilos of cocaine in a wheelchair in the car transporting the woman.
Crime Chief Seelall Persaud told Stabroek News today that early yesterday morning the woman was being transported to the airport when the vehicle was stopped on the East Bank. Persaud said police received a tip-off and set up a roadblock to intercept the vehicle.
The woman, who is said to be a US citizen, was arrested along with another person in the vehicle and following investigations two other persons were arrested.
Persaud did not say when the persons might face the court but stated that his officers are continuing the investigation.
