The Guyana Power and Light (GPL) says that the company has been engaging the Wartsila power generation company for power plants on a turnkey basis for a number of years and recognises the company as a more viable option.
In response to a Kaieteur News article as well asa letter written in that publication recently on the sourcing of generating equipment, CEO Bharrat Dindyal said the company has recognised Wartsila as a worldwide sales organisation for a number of years. It was noted that the company has engaged Wartsila since 1992 and the international company did not use agents as suggested by the article.
Dindyal said too that the US$18 million which the company plans to spend on the generating equipment was well thought out, as the package also includes auxiliary equipment, a lighting system as well as a water processing system, among other elements as part of the supply scope. These are expected to complement the operations of the power company.
He dispelled the notion, as mentioned by the article, that the company shelved an offer of US$15 million for the same equipment.
